Description

Château Melano Light is a speciality malt known for its intense malty aroma and a process that maximises melanoidin content through slow kilning at up to 130°C. Often referred to as a "turbo Munich" malt, it adds depth and complexity to the beer’s flavour profile. Its unique properties make it a choice malt for giving beer a fuller body, enhancing flavour stability, and adding a red hue—ideal for Scottish ales, amber ales, and other red or dark brews.

How to Use Château Melano Light In brewing, Château Melano Light can compose up to 20% of the grain bill to achieve its full impact without overpowering other malts. It works exceptionally well in amber and dark beer styles where malt richness and colour are desired. By adding this malt, brewers can achieve a balanced, rounded flavour that gives a subtle sweetness while amplifying the body and mouthfeel.

Flavour Profile Château Melano Light delivers a bold, malty aroma with rich, full-bodied characteristics. The melanoidins impart sweetness and a slightly toasted note, enhancing the beer’s depth and giving it a fuller, rounder palate experience.

Enzymatic Activity While primarily focused on flavour enhancement, Château Melano Light has moderate enzymatic activity. Its addition aids the mashing process without significantly altering the beer's fermentability.

Mashing This malt can be used in a single infusion mash or multi-step mash, depending on the recipe. As a highly modified malt, it blends well with base malts and other specialty grains to contribute layered complexity without losing enzymatic efficiency.

Combining with Other Malts Château Melano Light pairs well with base malts and Munich malts to build a complex malt backbone. When combined with lighter speciality malts, it adds richness and colour to the final brew, ideal for styles needing additional body or a distinct malt-forward profile.

Benefits of Château Melano Light Using Château Melano Light adds versatility to brewing, particularly for its malty flavour and colour contributions. It also offers flavour stability and enhanced mouthfeel, providing a quality base for experimentation in amber and red ales.

History Château Melano Light malt is crafted using traditional malting techniques refined in Belgium. Castle Malting, one of Europe’s oldest malting companies, developed this malt to cater to brewers seeking a high-impact speciality malt that could deepen beer character and improve colour stability.
