This year's Easter brew is fermented with K.1 Voss Kveik yeast, from Kveik Yeastery. The malt and hop composition are kept very simple and neutral, to highlight the many exciting flavours and aromas which can be achieved with the K.1 Voss Kveik yeast. The taste and aromas change significantly if it is fermented at 20°C or 40°C, in fact you will perceive it as two completely different brews.

Real Norwegian multi-culture Kveik yeast from Kveik Yeastery in Norway.

Kveik is a completely unique multi-culture yeast from Norwegian farms that traditionally was used in farmhouse brewing and passed on for many generations. It is known to ferment incredibly fast at high temperatures and creating unique flavours and aromas. Original Kveik cultures consists of several yeast types in each culture, and without all the yeast types in place it cannot be call it real Kveik. Each yeast type in the culture contributes with taste and aroma, and the original composition is what brings unique flavours and aromas.

 

Voss Kveik 

The K.1 Voss Kveik comes from Sigmund Gjernes in Voss, Norway.

K.1 Voss has fruity notes with orange and citrus being the main characteristics. At high fermentation temperatures the intensity of the flavour and aromas are medium to high, and at lower temperatures it will be less intense.

 

Fermentation

Voss ferments from 18°C (64°F) and up to 42°C (106°F). The higher fermentation temperature, the faster fermentation.

At the highest temperature you can expect the beer to ferment in 48 hours or faster.
